24 Sep 2013 / By Kumar Anubhav Jha
 Dark Match:

Tons of Funk beat Bo Dallas and Sami Zayn. Dallas came out to crickets, while Zayn got ole chants. Sweet T won a quick squash to get the crowd up.

WWE Smackdown:

- Triple H came out first and he received a very solid pop. He spoke about how the WWE wrestlers blame management for their shortcomings, and delivered the usual "best for business" talk.

The Miz interrupted Hunter and they discussed the happenings from the last two episodes of Raw where Randy Orton beat him up in front of his parents, and Big Show knocked him out. The main event was set up as The Miz vs. Randy Orton.

- World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio defeated R-Truth. It was a glorified squash match. Afterward, Del Rio put Truth in the Cross Arm Breaker. Rob Van Dam ran in afterwards. Ricardo Rodriguez threw RVD a chair that he used to beat Del Rio with. RVD was over, as usual, with the crowd.

- The Real Americans defeated The Prime Time Players. Good back and forth match. Darren Young tapped to Jack Swagger's ankle lock.

- Dolph Ziggler defeated U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose by DQ. Triple H set up a six-man tag with Ziggler, RVD, and Kofi Kingston vs. The Shield.

- The Shield defeated Dolph Ziggler, Rob Van Dam, and Kofi Kingston. Seth Rollins pinned Kingston.

- WWE Divas Champion A.J. Lee defeated Cameron.A.J. won after a flying knee and she debuted a new sidekick.

- Paul Heyman cut a sick promo about how he will topple C.M. Punk at Battleground and will always be the man standing over him. Amazing mic work.

- Santino Marella and The Great Khali defeated 3MB. They played flutes to bring The Cobra to life or to use it against Santino. Samuel wrote that it was the "worst thing I ever saw. Santino pinned somebody I refused to watch."

- Randy Orton defeated The Miz. Miz was nursing a storyline injury and Orton put a beating on him, so the referee disqualified Orton. Triple H restarted the match, saying Orton was trying to get disqualified. Hunter said Randy had to win by pinfall. The crowd hated Miz and cheered for Orton. It was an uncompetitive match and Orton finished it with an RKO.

WWE RAW Results, September 23

WWE RAW Results, September 23

WWE RAW Opener:

This week's Raw opened with Vince McMahon narrating a photo gallery on Angelo Savoldi, who died last week at the age of 99. "They don't make 'em like they used to," McMahon closed.

Raw then went to a standard open focusing on Daniel Bryan thinking he won the WWE Title at Night of Champions eight days ago, but Triple H stripped Bryan of the title following a "fast count" from referee Scott Armstrong. Cue up a vacant WWE Title and conspiracy situation.

- In the arena, WWE showed a host of babyfaces on-stage standing together as a show of unity. Justin Roberts then formally introduced Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, who walked out on-stage and surveyed the babyfaces. Hunter and Steph then walked down to the ring, which was being guarded by The Shield.

Once inside the ring, which was covered by a red carpet, Hunter and Stephanie disingenuously played to the Chicago crowd. Hunter then addressed the ten men standing on-stage, noting they stood together with Daniel Bryan chanting, "Yes!" at the end of Raw last week. Hunter then moved along to clarifying their position addressing the show of support last week. Steph said, "Thank you. Thank you for finally being men." Hunter echoed: "Thank you for finally stepping up."

Hunter said he knows it has nothing to do with Daniel Bryan. Suddenly, there was some noise off-mic. It was Rob Van Dam at the mic podium, but his sound wasn't on. RVD said they were fighting for Daniel Bryan. He said they screwed over Bryan and fighting for what was right. Hunter paused for an "R-V-D" chant to play out, then Hunter responded that he finds it hard to believe they were fighting for Daniel Bryan because he thought WWE Superstars fought to be WWE champion, not fight for a WWE champion.

Hunter asked Dolph Ziggler about fighting for Daniel Bryan. He asked Dolph if he really thinks Bryan should be fighting for the WWE Title at Battleground. Stephanie then asked R-Truth or Zack Ryder about being WWE champion. Steph said there is one reason why they don't have a title shot and that reason is because "The Shield," Hunter finished.

Hunter said Shield has beaten down each and every one of them standing on the stage. He said they are clearly frustrated and it has nothing to do with Daniel Bryan, but frustration with The Shield. Hunter said he's going to give them the chance to take out frustration tonight when they compete in an elimination handicap match against The Shield. Hunter said he'll give them a partner - someone who gets yet another title shot at Battleground. Hunter said this person feels he should be WWE champion because he believes he's better than all of them - Daniel Bryan.

Stephanie said it's the first-ever 11-on-3 handicap match tonight as Shield tried to make sense of what's happening. She said they want to say thank you to the men on-stage and say thank you to the fans. Stephanie said one of them will be able to face Randy Orton tonight. As the Chicago crowd chanted for C.M. Punk, Stephanie said the options are Truth, Ziggler, or RVD. Stephanie then plugged WWE's App voting, which drew boos, which drew a smirk from Hunter.

"What's best for all of you is best for business," Hunter closed. Stephanie finished: "Thank you." Shield talked strategy outside the ring as the announcers figured out the handicap match booking.

- Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and JBL recapped the opening segment promo before going back to Night of Champions eight days ago when C.M. Punk lost to Paul Heyman. Tonight, Punk returns home to Chicago. We go to commercial.

Miz told Stephanie to take her "veiled legal threats" and shove them straight up her -- Steph interrupted. She said Miz is doing this to Show because he's "living on his cul-de-sac of disappointment." Steph continued that Miz isn't a major player, peaked too early, and is a utility player. Stephanie said when a radio show needs morning media, Miz is there. Or if they need to send Miz to some far-off corner of the world.

Stephanie said they were in Miz's hometown last week, where the look in Miz's mom's eyes went from hope to "absolute disappointment." Steph spoke into Miz's eyes that he failed his mom, fans, and himself. Steph said Miz once again couldn't measure up. "And yet you never learn your lesson," Stephanie said. Steph then told Big Show to knock out Miz. Show didn't even hesitate, as he spun Miz around and KO Punched him before leaving the ring. WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS - SEPTEMBER 20, 2013

WWE Smackdown on SyFy Live Coverage
Taped 9/17 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

By Kumar Anubhav Jha

[Q1] A video package aired that covered basically the entire WWE Title saga from Monday, including the main event and the close of the show. In the arena, Vickie Guererro was introduced and was already in the ring. She welcomed everyone to Smackdown, and said as the general manager, she has the most thrilling show ever for Smackdown tonight. But first, she was here to introduce to us the laughing stock of WWE. No, it's not Hornswoggle, it's not even close. He went from hero to zero. She mentioned Bob Backlund holding the WWE title for over 2000 days, and CM Punk holding the title for 434 days. She then said Bryan has title reigns of 5 minutes and 21 hours respectively.

She then introduced Daniel Bryan, and he made his ring entrance. Bryan told Vickie that he would rather champion for one day than be a shrill corporate suck up for his entire life like her. She reminded him of her position, and that he had cheated at Summerslam. Bryan said he had done nothing wrong, but Vickie had none of it and said the video proved the comspiracy. She begged him to stop embarassing himself and come forward. Bryan said the truth was that he kneed Orton in the face, and the ref made a fast three count, but he could have counted to twenty because Orton was knocked out.

Bryan said he had nothing to do with what Scott Armstrong did. Vickie screamed that he was a liar. She said Triple H might have guaranteed him a match at Battleground, but she would have fired him. Bryan said that everyone should be glad that she has no real power. Vickie said if she didn't have any power, how could she punish the people that helped him on Monday? She showed all the men that assisted Bryan on Monday, and said they would all take on The Shield in a handicap match against the Shield, each taking all three members of The Shield on individually. Vickie left and Bryan was left standing in the ring contemplating the beating he would take later.

Cole and JBL said they would show footage of how Paul Heyman defeated CM Punk at Night of Champions, and that we would hear from Ryback and Heyman later.

My Take: Oh, another handicap match to punish people. How original. I like Bryan and the crowds clearly love him, but they are going out of their way to make him look like a dope here. Why not have some kind of alibi for his conspiracy? Perhaps his girlfriend to help explain where he was?

[Q2] Naomi danced with Cameron in the ring in preparation for her match. Natalya was in the booth on commentary, and then AJ made her entrance. A PIP video aired with AJ where she said she would defeat all the E! Total Divas one by one starting tonight.

1. AJ Lee vs. Naomi: They battled back and forth early on with AJ taking control with a head lock. Naomi fired back with a kick, and then rolled up AJ for two. She then followed up with drop kick and an atomic drop. She then hit rear view for another two count. Naomi tried for a suplex, but AJ slipped out and applied a sleeper. AJ spun out of a head scissors into the black widow for the submission victory.

AJ Defeated Naomi at 3:10.

Natalya got up from the announce table and stared down AJ, who was standing on the apron.

My Take: About as exciting as you'd expect. I'm optimistic that we'll get a decent match from AJ and Natalya, but the rest of the division just doesn't inspire much confidence at the moment. There is an odd mix of inexperience and lack of character development that just makes it feel inconsequential.

[Q3] 2. Santino vs. Jack Swagger: Swagger and Santino worked back and forth for a bit, with Swagger dominating the early going with a clothesline and a chin lock. Santino cartwheeled out of a hip toss and did the splits to avoid a clothesline. He hit a backslide for a surprise victory in a short match.

Santino defeated Jack Swagger at 1:58.

My Take: Not much to say there. Santino continues to get victories over people for inexplicable reasons.

Ryback made his entrance with Heyman and Axel. Heyman introduced himself and called himself the Best in the World. He said uncharacteristically he would give credit to CM Punk, he gave him all he could handle at Night of Champions. Heyman claimed only one man can claim victory when two gladiators battle, and it wasn't our hero CM Punk, it was Paul Heyman. Paul then looked at Ryback and said he couldn't have done it without his hero. Ryback told Heyman he didn't deserve to get picked on by a bully like CM Punk, and if there is one thing he can't stand it's a bully. He said he would do to this guy what he'd do to CM Punk the next time he saw him.

Ryback accused the jobber in the ring of not siging autographs for kids and bullying Heyman in the parking lot.

2. Ryback vs. Nick Nardone: Ryback tossed the guy in the corner and jawed at him. The jobber got in a flash of offense before eating a meat hook clothesline. He followed up with Shellshocked for a quick victory.

Ryback defeated Nick Nardone at 1:19.

Backstage, Randy Orton was shown walking toward the ring...[c]

My Take: You could have just added a minute onto the promo. It was better and more substantive than the match anyway. I like the Ryback and Heyman pairing, if only for Heyman fawning all over him. It reminds me of Bobby Heenan a bit.

[Q4] Randy Orton made his ring entrance. Orton grabbed a microphone and said Daniel Bryan and Scott Armstrong conspired to steal the WWE Title from him, and they succeeded. The fast count ended his title reign, but it was his fault, 100% his fault. He said it was his fault because he had locked away the sadistic side of the viper, because he thougth that's what everyone wanted. He went to anger management and worked his hardest to keep his true self hidden, because it's what everyone wanted. He said on Monday when he found out that's what Triple H and Stephanie wanted, and he made an example out of The Miz right in front of his family. He then showed footage of his beating on The Miz on the tron. After the video, Orton said at Battleground he would finally win the war against Daniel Bryan. Orton then promised to be your....then corrected himself to MY WWE Champion. The Shield made their ring entrance following the Orton promo. Cole then said this was the first match of it's kind in the WWE...[c]

My Take: A good promo from Orton, despite being a little monotone. The sadistic viper is his best character, and he's clearly more comfortable in the role.

After the break, Darren Young made his ring entrance for his beating.

3. Darren Young vs. The Shield: It was a three on one beating. They set him up for the spear and it was over..

The Shield defeated Darren Young at :40.

[Q5] Titus O'Neill was next. Reigns hit a shoulder tackle, and then Rollins held O'Neill down for a beating. They hit the Triple Power Bomb and pinned him.

The Shield defeated Titus O'Neill at :35.

Dolph Ziggler was next. He took it all three guys early, and jumped on Reigns in the corner, but the numbers caught up. Rollins pulled him violently off the second rope, and then all three guys took turns taking shots. Dolph fired back after a bit and hit a dropkick on Ambrose, and send Reings over the top rope to the outisde. Rollins took a fameasser, but Dolph got knocked to the outside by Rollins and then Reigns hit a nasty looking spear on the outside. Dolph got counted out.

The Shield defeated Dolph Ziggler at 2:01.

Kofi Kingston was next.

The Shield defeated Kofi Kingston at 1:30.

Rob Van Dam was next. Van Dam cleared Ambrose from the ring and hit kicks on Rollins and Reings. He hit a double rolling thunder on Rollins and Reigns, and then climbed up top to hit the Five Star Frog Splash, but Triple H's music hit. He ended the match abruptly and Van Dam got pushed off the top rope. He grabbed Vickie Guerrero and pulled her to the back...[c]

The match ended in no contest.

My Take: Uh, what? A few fun spots in the match, but the conclusion makes little sense. It appeared Triple H stepped in when The Shield appeared to be on the verge of losing, but then he acts like he is disciplining Guerrero. The follow up better be good.

[Q6] Triple H excoriated Vickie backstage, and said what she did would cause a revolt. She defended herself by saying she thought she was doing what was best for business. Triple H said what was best for business was fair and open competition, and that the talent need to feel safe in a competitive environment. Triple H told Vickie to go make a match between The Shield and The Usos with Daniel Bryan. Cole mentioned the odd timing of Triple H's interruption, and then introduced footage of Dusty and Stephanie from Monday. They focused heavily on Big Show's remorse.

Backstage, Hunter was shown pacing. Zack Ryder and Justin Gabriel walked up and Triple H apologized and said they didn't deserve a match with The Shield. Ryder slapped Triple H's arm and thanked him for the apology, but said he was looking for competition. He then told them to walk out to the ring and said he would send them some fair competition...[c]

My Take: Well, I guess Triple H is trying to hide his disdain for everyone under a layer of corporate BS. It will be interesting to see how the cracks start to show up.

Ryder and Gabriel were in the ring, and the Wyatt Family made their entrance.

4. The Wyatt Family vs. Zack Ryder and Justin Gabriel: Luke Harper started with Ryder. Ryder hit a facebuster and a drop kick. Harper charged in the corner and ate an elbow. He didn't miss with a Big Boot, however, and Gabriel had to break up the pin. Rowan to care of Gabriel and hit a bucklebomb and a discus clothesline for the win.

The Wyatt Family defeated Gabriel and Ryder at 2:10.

After the match, Bray hit Sister Abigail on Ryder. Rowan hit a Big Boot all the way to the top rope on Gabriel, who tried to stop him. Bray took a mic and says when he makes a promise, he keeps it. He said if WWE keeps lining them up, he promises that he would continue to knock them down, all for Sister Abigail. Follow the buzzards. Cole and JBL plugged the main event.

My Take: A fun match that was way too short. I liked Bray's promo after the match. I think they need to reveal more about these guys soon, though.

[Q7] Backstage, Triple H said he was sorry to RVD backstage about being in the handicap match. He then told him he would have a match against Del Rio at Battleground to make up for it. Del Rio then showed up and put a beating on RVD in the trainers room, including a kick to the back of head and tossing him into some equipment crates. Del Rio threw a box at RVD and he was unconscious. Cole called into question the timing of the attack by Del Rio. R-Truth then made his entrance, followed by Del Rio. A replay of the Del Rio beating on RVD was shown.

5. Alberto Del Rio vs. R-Truth: R-Truth hit a suplex for a two count early. Del Rio worked the arm and tied up Del Rio's arm in the ropes. He then hit a back suplex for a two count. Del Rio applied a chin lock and put some boots to Truth. Del Rio got cocky and taunted the crowd, and then Truth hit him with a kick for a two count. R-Truth avoided the cross arm breaker and then hit a enziguri for a near fall. Del Rio kicked Truth in the hamstring, and then a side kick to the head. He then applied the cross arm breaker for the submission.

Del Rio defeated R-Truth at 3:25.

My Take: I like the way the are using Cole to actually question Triple H's motives. Del Rio's attack on RVD looked good and he looked strong in his match. I wish they'd give Del Rio some more mic time, but the attack backstage was the best reason they've given us for this feud yet.

Cole said the Main Event was next...[c]

The Shield made their ring entrance, followed by The Uso's. Daniel Bryan made his ring entrance last.

7. Daniel Bryan and The Uso's vs. The Shield: Bryan and Seth Rollins started. Bryan hit several kicks and then a high knee. Bryan ducked under a leap frog and trapped the leg of Rollins. He then applied a surfboard and then tagged in Jimmy Uso. Ambrose then quicly tagged in and Jimmy hit a back drop and tagged in Jay.

[Q8] Jay hit a few strike and make quick tag to Jimmy. Jimmy hit a flying headbutt and tagged Jay back in. Ambrose caught Jay and backed him into his corner to tag Reigns. He came and teed off on Jay. Jay managed to kick Roman when he telegraphed a back body drop, and make a tag to Bryan. He hit some kicks on Reigns and got caught by a clothesline. Ambrose tagged in a dropped a few elbows, and then tagged in Rollins.

Rollins hit a few strikes and put Bryan in a chin lock. Bryan broke free and tagged in Jimmy Uso. Rollins his Jimmy with a drop kick and tagged in Ambrose, who hit multiple strikes...[c]

Jay caught Rollins with kick to the back of the head and tagged in Jimmy. Jimmy hit a Samoan Drop and knocked Ambrose to the floor. Ambrose hit a pele type kick and tagged in Roman Reigns. They worked quick tags. Ambrose clubbed Jimmy's chest and hit a nice splash in the corner. Rollins made a tag and made two quick covers for near falls. Rollins argued with the ref and Ambrose kicked Jimmy as he lay over the second rope.

Reigns tagged in and hit an elbow drop and then locked in a chin lock. Jimmy broke free and Reigns hit him with a nice running clothesline and went right back to the chin lock. Jimmy flipped out of a back suplex and knocked down all The Shield members. He crawled for a tag but Rollins interrupted him, only to take a Bubba Bomb. Jay eventually tagged Bryan, who knocked Rollins and Reigns to the floor and started his big offensive flurry. Two drop kicks in the corner and about 5 kicks later, he hit a hurricanrana from the top rope, but Reigns broke up the pin.

Jay Uso, Roman Reings, and Jimmy Uso hit suicide dives in that order to get everybody on the outside. Bryan applied the Yes Lock to Ambrose, but he to the bottom rope. The Uso's hit double super kicks on Ambrose from the floor as he laid over the bottom rope, and then Bryan hit the Busaiku Knee Kick for the victory.

Daniel Bryan and The Uso's defeated The Shield at 16:31.

My Take: The match was actually pretty dull overall until the frenetic pace that was the closing moment. Given the overall talent level in the ring, I would have thought we'd get a better match than we did. It wasn't bad mind you, it just didn't feel like we saw anything new. That kind of plagued the entire night tonight, as it feels more and more like Battleground will be reliving Night of Champions. I wouldn't mind that if the stories were great, but many of them feel lukewarm.

WWE RAW RESULTS, SEPTEMBER 16

WWE RAW RESULTS - SEPTEMBER 16, 2013
16 Sep 2013 / By Kr Anubhav Jha
WWE RAW Opener:

WWE Raw opened with a video package recapping the low (Paul Heyman "pinning" C.M. Punk) and high (Daniel Bryan capturing the WWE Title) last night at Night of Champions.

Live in the arena, Justin Roberts introduced the new WWE champion Daniel Bryan to a very loud reception. Bryan walked out on-stage with his new WWE Title belt and led the crowd in "Yes!" chants before entering the ring with a big smile on his face.

In the ring, Bryan clutched the title belt and held it up for the crowd. The side-panel "logo" on the title belt is "Yes!" written out in block letters on top of each other. Bryan waited out a loud, lengthy "Daniel Bryan" chant before addressing the crowd.

"You guys are awesome," Bryan opened. Bryan said there are a lot of things he would like to say right now, but he thinks what says it best is... Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

Suddenly, Triple H's music interrupted. As Hunter marched to the ring with a frown on his face, Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and JBL set the stage for Hunter's presence. Hunter angrily took the mic and said he wants to address the 800 pound gorilla in the room - the fast-count in the title match last night. Hunter said Bryan's victory is tainted at this moment. So, he wants to bring out referee Scott Armstrong right now.

Pause for "No!" chants before Armstrong walked out to the ring hanging his head after being called out by the principal. Once Armstrong arrived in the ring, Hunter went to the footage from last night's title match. But, first, he would like to review Armstrong's normal cadence. After a replay of Armstrong's normal count during Bryan vs. Orton last night, Hunter went to the "finish" of the main event. The footage showed Armstrong with a hitch in his arm on the two before the three. Hunter wanted another look as the crowd chanted, "Yes!" for the visual of Bryan winning.

Hunter then went to a side-by-side of the fast-count compared to the normal cadence. Hunter told Scott that it was an incredibly fast count, then asked Armstrong to explain himself. "It was a fast count. I don't know," Armstrong mumbled. "I made a mistake." Hunter told Scott that he is a senior official of WWE. He said that kind of fast-count doesn't just happen. "I made a mistake," Scott answered. Hunter said he's known Scott for 15 years and he's never known Scott to make a mistake like that. And if he ever did anything, he always admitted to it. "Tell me the truth!" Hunter told him.

Scott breathed, then eyeballed Bryan. Armstrong suggested with a nod that he was working with Bryan, who denied it. Armstrong left the ring as Bryan shouted that he had nothing to do with this. Hunter said he cannot believe that Bryan would conspire to win the WWE Title as Bryan adamantly denied the accusation.

Hunter said he is holding the title vacant, not giving it back to Randy Orton. Hunter then told Bryan to give him back the WWE Title as the crowd shouted, "No!" Hunter told Bryan that he has disgraced himself and "Shawn," who Hunter said he thought would have taught him better. Hunter told Bryan to give him back the title or he will take it from him.

Suddenly, Randy Orton's music played. Out came the former WWE champion. Hunter told Orton to calm down because he has this under control. Hunter shouted at his kids that there will not be any fighting because he has this. Hunter told Bryan to be reasonable because he is no longer WWE champion. "The title is held up. There is no champion. I will get to the bottom of this," Hunter said.

Bryan surveyed the title belt as the crowd shrieked and told him not to do it. Bryan took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and looked toward the arena, which was hot with a "No!" chant. Bryan then got in Hunter's face and shouted, "No!," so Orton grabbed Bryan and gave him an RKO as Hunter yanked the toy away from his student. Hunter then left the ring with possession of his title belt toy as Orton stood over his fallen classmate. "Randy Sucks!" chant from the crowd as Orton continued to stand over Bryan. Raw faded to commercial.

Night of Champions Pre-Show:

We go live from The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan for WWE Night of Champions 2013, with the WWE Pre-Show now entitled “Kickoff” commencing what should be an action-packed evening. Josh Matthews gets us going with shots of fans inside the Joe Louis Arena. He introduces the panel that includes Alex Riley, Booker T and Santino Marella.

-Matthews asks Booker what he is most looking forward to and he says the WWE Championship match featuring Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. Santino picks CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman. Riley says he is excited that the panel has a chance to provide their opinions.

-The panel starts talking about the tag team turmoil match. Santino says The Usos have an upper advantage because they are twin brothers – and you can’t teach that. Booker says The Prime Time Players have huge momentum going in while Riley agrees with Booker that The Usos have momentum but ultimately he picks The Usos to win.

-Rene Young in the social media lounge says she wants fans to get interactive on social media, with a poll asking who are the greatest tag team champions of all time, including The Hart Foundation, The Legion of Doom and others.

-A backstage shot focuses on Paul Heyman who looks very stressed. Heyman is approached by Brad Maddox who asks if everything is okay and Heyman starts to snap. He says out of all people, Maddox is asking him if he is ok but he was the one who booked him into facing CM Punk alongside Curtis Axel. Heyman then comes up with an idea, in which he says he could punch the referee and get disqualified. He said Maddox was a former referee and that he has come up with a masterplan. Maddox suggests their match should be a No Disqualification Match. It’s official – the stipulation has changed in the handicap match.

-The panel starts discussing what they just saw, and Riley thinks that No Disqualification benefits Heyman.

WWE Night of Champions Opener:

The show opens with a video package highlighting the championship theme of the evening, and some historical highlights of great champions from the past.

In the Arena:

The pyro hits and Michael Cole welcomes us to the show. Justin Roberts introduces the COO of the WWE, Triple H.

Hunter makes his way to the ring and Cole talks about how it's fitting that we start the show with an all-time great champion in Triple H. King says he doesn't know how many people are saying derogatory things about Triple H for fear of losing their jobs.

Hunter grabs a mic and welcomes the crowd to Night of Champions. He's proud to put his stamp of approval on tonight's matches because tonight will be one of the greatest nights in WWE history. And to show the fans that he's not the villainous guy that WWE superstars think he is, and that he's listened to the fans, and they, and he both want what's best for business. So tonight, in the WWE Championship match, where Daniel Bryan takes on Randy Orton, there will be no interference from anyone. No Shield, no Big Show, nobody, just Orton and Daniel Bryan one-on-one. We'll find out who should be WWE Champion. Hunter asks the crowd if they're ready. He's interrupted by Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel.

Heyman says he's been calling, e-mailing, texting, leaving messages with everyone. He doesn't know what it takes to get a reply from Hunter, but Heyman has a desperate need to talk to Hunter. He didn't want it to be in front of the world, but Hunter thinks it's best for business. Hunter says Paul looks terrible and asks him when the last time he slept was, or when he showered. He says Paul looks like a wreck, and Paul screams of course he's a wreck. He apologizes and compliments Hunter on the line-up for NOC, but he says tonight Hunter has made a serious error in judgement, by putting Heyman, a non-athlete and father of two, into a handicapped elimination match against a fighter of such dominance, WWE accepted Heyman's branding him as Best in the World. A fighter that gave Brock Lesnar all that he could handle. And Punk wants to beat Heyman up, to hurt him. Punk wants to give him such a beating that Heyman will never be seen in WWE again. Heyman begs Hunter to cancel the match with Punk.

Hunter thinks it over, and says that Paul makes some good points. He asks about if it has anything to do with the match being made no DQ. Hunter says he's tried to weasel out of things, and he doesn't see it happening here. Hunter says Heyman doesn't need to tag in, he can let Axel handle it. Because Heyman should believe in Axel. Hunter asks if Heyman believes in Axel. Heyman hesitates, and Hunter says the match is on. Heyman asks if there's no more honor among thieves. Axel grabs the mic and asks Hunter if there's something personal going on. He knows what it is. The first day Axel became a Heyman guy was on Monday Night Raw and Axel beat Hunter in a match. Hunter says there's an old saying, don't poke the bear. Heyman brought up the fact that Hunter made a mistake, and tonight is Night of Champions, and all championships are defended. Luckily this is a mistake that Hunter can fix tonight on September 15th, in Detroit. He's going to walk down the aisle and defend the Intercontinental Championship against the first person he crosses in the back, and that match is going to take place right now. Hunter drops the mic and heads to the back.

Heyman grabs the mic and says this match is taking place under Axel's protest. Kofi Kingston's music plays, and Kingston heads down to the ring.
